Introduction of computational exercise
in Saitama university
In the X-terminal room, there are about 50 X-terminals, which are connected to SUN Enterprise 6000 of 16 CPUs. We had exercise for 53 students in this room. Almost all students were beginners of computers. At first, they learned how to login and logout, typing, operation of the X-windows, file and directory management, and vi editor on X-terminals. Secondary, they learned the usage of e-mail and the browser of www. Thirdly, they studied the fortran programing and the 2Dgraphics by using X-library. Finally, 3D visualization by using AVS (Application Visualization System) was introduced. In this exercise, all instructions were shown in a homepage, where manuals, information, content of today's exercise, results of homework, the examination and so on were included.
