Abstract(At 2235, presented by Saitama Institute of Technology):
Saitama Institute of Technology has focused intensive effort in information
technology education in recent years. Our computational resources are Origin,
ONYX300 with CAVE and PCs placed in lecture and exercise rooms. These resources
are used for education that includes UNIX, visualization, CG and computational
methods and simulations. AVS visualization software and three dimensional CG
tools have been used in the exercises and project studies. The results have
been shown in some CG competitions and newly developed lectures. The content
developed in the fields of scientific visualization and CG can be shared
with other universities which have CAVE or similar VR capabilities.
Cooperative study has been carried out in these fields with counterpart
universities both inside and outside of Japan. We have also participated
in e-Learning efforts in order to enhance our educational activities.
Abstract(At 2239, presented by Saitama University):
Computational studies have been developed using Hitachi SR-8000 and SGI
ONYX3400 supercomputers with the CAVE VR environment in the fields of
science and engineering. Visualizations have been developed for these
studies and applied to education. Scientific conferences using the CAVE
environment have been carried out more than 16 times in the last three
years to show the good success of its applications and to examine the
suitability of using this technology for education. Collaboration
between universities and research organizations in Saitama has been
facilitated through the activities of visualization and CG and their
application in the field of education. The teleconference system is
used in lectures and also in the discussion and demonstration of VR
visualization in scientific meetings.
